The Monsters Take Over
The name “monster truck” is coined by Bob George, a promoter and announcer for Truck-a-Rama (later the USHRA) in the early 1980s, while announcing an event featuring BIGFOOT.
The name sticks.
By the mid-1980s, Monster Trucks are a recognized motorsport with rules, rankings, and a growing fan base. Promoters stage competitions that feature multiple trucks, wheelies, donuts, long jumps, races, and freestyle events.
Other trucking enthusiasts repeat Chandler’s model, often using catchy names, mascots, and characters based on mythological creatures and animals to connect with fans young and old.
