Symbols: SL Benfica emblem

In 1904, the symbols that are still part of Benfica’s identity today were chosen. The emblem consisted of a red and white shield, a strip with the club’s initials on a football, an eagle with open wings and the motto E Pluribus Unum. When Sport Lisboa merged with Sport Club de Benfica in 1908, the emblem gained a bicycle wheel and the club continued as Sport Lisboa e Benfica.

The Crest/Logo of SL Benfica

In 1904, the symbols that are still part of Benfica’s identity were chosen. The emblem consisted of a red and white shield, a banner with the Club’s initials on a football, an eagle with spread wings and the motto E Pluribus Unum. When Sport Lisboa merged with Sport Club de Benfica in 1908, the emblem took on a bicycle wheel and the Club was renamed Sport Lisboa e Benfica.
